Switch your active company or workspace

Why the active company matters

In TimeSentry, your login is an authentication identity. The people, firms, clients, contractors, and agents that perform or own work are company entities. One login can be associated with more than one entity, but it acts as only one active company at a time.

The active company controls the scope of:

  • clients, projects, tasks, time entries, expenses, notes, and documents;
  • contracts, billing rates, invoices, accounts receivable, and accounts payable;
  • staffing, analytics, and reports;
  • integrations and automatic-capture configuration; and
  • company settings, permissions, and API keys.
Switch companies
  1. Locate the company switcher in the left navigation rail.
  2. Open the list of companies associated with your login.
  3. Select the company you want to act as.
  4. Wait for TimeSentry to load the selected workspace.
  5. Verify the displayed company before continuing.

On smaller screens, open the company list from the compact navigation and select Switch to [company name].

After switching

Reopen any form that was already on screen so its company-scoped client, project, and permission choices refresh. Review the current filters as well; a saved view or date range can make the new workspace appear empty.

Do not keep an unsaved entry open while switching workspaces. Save or discard it first so the work is not created under the wrong company.

If the expected company is not listed

Your login may not yet be associated with that company. Ask its owner or administrator for the correct company key or invitation process. Do not use another person's login.

If the company was previously available, confirm that your association was not removed and that you are signed in with the correct email identity.

Common mistakes
  • Creating a project under your individual workspace instead of the firm.
  • Approving a submission while acting as the timekeeper rather than the receiving company.
  • Configuring an integration under the wrong company.
  • Comparing reports from different active companies as if they used one shared set of records.
