Join or connect a company with a relationship key

What a relationship key does

Every company has a unique Relationship Key. Another TimeSentry company can enter that key when creating a working relationship. This connects existing entities instead of creating a second record for the same person or organization.

The key identifies the target company. The relationship type - such as client, employee, contractor, collaborator, or vendor - determines how the two companies work together.

Find your company's relationship key
  1. Switch to the company whose key you want to share.
  2. Open Company settings from the left navigation.
  3. Find the Company Invite section.
  4. Locate Relationship Key and choose the copy action.

Share the key only with the intended person or organization through an approved communication channel.

Connect an existing company
  1. Switch to the company that is creating the relationship.
  2. Open the appropriate area under Org, such as Clients, Employees, Contractors, Collaborators, or Vendors.
  3. Start the add-company workflow.
  4. Keep the existing-company option selected rather than creating a new company.
  5. Paste the target company's key into Company Key.
  6. Choose the relationship details requested by the form and submit.

When adding a client, TimeSentry may also ask whether your company is the client's contractor or employee. Choose the relationship that reflects the real engagement.

Avoid duplicate companies

Use the Relationship Key whenever the other party already has a TimeSentry company. Creating a new company with a similar name produces a separate entity with separate projects, records, and relationships.

If a duplicate already exists, stop before adding more data and ask an administrator or support team to review the records. Do not try to merge them by renaming one company to match the other.

Keep the key secure

Treat the Relationship Key as an invitation code. Do not post it publicly, store it in a client-facing article, or include it in screenshots. If you suspect it was shared with the wrong party, review your company relationships and contact support.
