Rename Projects to Matters or Cases
TimeSentry can display the core project feature as Project, Matter, or Case. The setting changes the terminology shown throughout supported parts of the application.
It does not create a new record type, convert project IDs, or move existing data. Time entries, tasks, contracts, staffing, documents, and integrations continue to refer to the same underlying projects.
Change the label- Switch to the company you want to configure.
- Open Company settings.
- Find Project Naming Convention.
- Select Project, Matter, or Case.
- Save the company settings.
Reopen pages or refresh the application if an older label remains in a form that was already open.
Choose a consistent term- Use Project for general professional-services work.
- Use Matter when that is the firm's legal-practice convention.
- Use Case when clients and staff normally identify engagements as cases.
Changing the label does not rename individual projects. Edit a project's name separately when the engagement itself needs a new name.
Connected systemsExternal integrations may continue to use their own terminology, such as Matter in Clio or Case in MyCase. The TimeSentry label does not alter the external system's object names or API.
When writing internal procedures, mention the configured TimeSentry term and the external equivalent so users can map them correctly.
