Install and use TimeSentry Desktop on Windows and macOS

What the desktop app does

TimeSentry Desktop helps capture work performed in desktop applications and supported browsers. It can also detect supported online meetings and, when enabled, record them. Captured activity is sent to TimeSentry so it can be reviewed as suggested work before it becomes part of your final records.

Install the app
  1. Download the installer for your operating system from the official TimeSentry source provided by your organization.
  2. On Windows, run the installer and follow the prompts.
  3. On macOS, open the DMG and drag TimeSentry into Applications.
  4. Open TimeSentry Desktop and choose Log in with TimeSentry. Complete sign-in in the browser window that opens.

Keep the app current when an update is offered. If your organization manages software centrally, follow its installation policy instead.

Complete the initial setup

Open Settings, then:

  1. Under Company, select the company whose work you are capturing. This selection controls where new desktop activity and meetings are attributed.
  2. Under Tracked Applications, enable the applications you want TimeSentry to observe.
  3. Decide whether to enable browser activity. It is off by default.
  4. Review the meeting-capture policy before enabling meeting recording.
Monitor and control capture

The main screen shows service status, the last heartbeat, today's activity, recent entries, and synchronization history. Use Sync now when you need to send pending activity immediately. Use Pause tracking when you do not want desktop activity captured, and Resume tracking when you are ready to continue.

The normal synchronization interval is about six minutes, so a short delay before activity appears is expected.
