Track and Log Time Entries in Time Sentry using Timer
Summary: Start, monitor, stop, and save a live timer so active work becomes a complete time entry.
Use the timer when you want TimeSentry to measure work as it happens.
Start a timer
- Open Time > My Time or the dedicated Timer view when available.
- Select Start Timer.
- Choose the client and project if you already know where the work belongs.
- Add a description or task details when the timer form provides them.
- Start the timer.
If you begin without a client or project, complete those fields before submitting the resulting time entry.
While the timer is running
The timer continues to measure elapsed work until it is stopped. Avoid starting multiple timers for the same work. If you switch tasks, stop the current timer and begin a new one so descriptions and project allocation remain accurate.
Stop and save
- Stop the running timer.
- Review the calculated duration.
- Confirm the date, timekeeper, client, project, description, and billable status.
- Add activity categories or UTBMS codes when required.
- Save, sync, or submit using the available action.
Timer entries show Timer as their source and normally have full confidence because the duration was measured directly.
Correct a timer entry
Open the resulting entry from My Time and edit it while the current status permits changes. If the entry has already been submitted, recall it when Recall is available or follow your company's correction process.
Troubleshooting
- Timer is assigned to the wrong company: switch to the correct active company before starting.
- Client or project is unavailable: confirm the relationship, project status, and active company.
- Duration is too long: edit the saved entry and use separate entries for unrelated tasks.
- Timer is still running: return to the Timer view and stop it before starting another work block.
- Entry cannot be submitted: assign it to a client project that has an upstream approval path.
