How far back can I log time?
The current Manual Entry and Bulk Entry forms allow you to select the entry date and time and do not impose a product-specific lookback value in the date control. The time-entry API accepts an ISO date or date-time rather than requiring a recent date window.
That does not mean every historical entry can complete every workflow. Company policy, permissions, project history, approval state, invoice state, and connected-system limits still apply.
Before adding older timeConfirm:
- Active company: create the entry in the workspace that performed or owns the work.
- Client and project: select the project that was valid for the engagement. Do not attach historical work to a convenient but unrelated current project.
- Timekeeper: use the company entity that actually performed the work.
- Billable status and rate: follow the engagement terms that applied to the work.
- Approval and billing period: check whether the period has already been approved, invoiced, exported, or closed.
- Company policy: follow any internal timekeeping deadline or period-lock procedure.
Open Time > My Time, choose Manual Entry, select the historical date and time, complete the client, project, duration, description, and billable fields, and save. Review the saved entry before submitting it.
Add several historical entriesUse Bulk Entry when you need to enter several separate records. Confirm each row's date, client, project, duration, description, and billable setting. Bulk Entry creates individual entries; it should not be used to combine unrelated work into one long record.
Historical entries and connected systemsPractice-management, accounting, payroll, calendar, phone, and other integrations may have their own import windows or rules for closed periods. A manual entry created in TimeSentry is not proof that a connected system will accept it.
Before syncing older work, review the integration's settings and the destination system's open period. Avoid creating both a manual entry and an imported entry for the same work.
If an older entry cannot be saved or submittedCheck that the project and client still exist in the active company, that you have permission to use them, and that the entry is not being added to an invoiced or otherwise restricted workflow. If a connected system rejects the entry, review its date and closed-period rules.
When escalating, include the active company, intended date, project, action that failed, error message, and connected system if applicable.
