Connect Slack and choose user or administrator access

Choose a connection type

Open Integrations, select Slack, and choose one of the offered connection types:

User: authorize your personal Slack identity for permitted activity in the workspace.
Workspace administrator: authorize the workspace-level installation and manage the integration for the organization.

Use administrator access only when you are authorized to install and manage apps for the Slack workspace. Slack may require a separate workspace owner or administrator to approve the request.

Complete authorization

Review the Slack workspace name and permissions on the authorization page. Return to TimeSentry and confirm that the connection is listed. If you belong to multiple workspaces, make sure you authorize the intended one.

Route activity

Slack supports integration rules based on message content, channel name, and sender name. Open the connection in Manage Integrations or use Settings > Integration Rules. Start with rules that identify a client or project unambiguously, and choose Save while testing.

Rules run from top to bottom and the first match wins. Move narrow channel- or client-specific rules above broad content rules.

Protect workspace information

Only capture channels and activity permitted by your organization. A TimeSentry connection does not change Slack channel membership or grant permission to repurpose confidential messages. Remove the connection and revoke the Slack app grant when access is no longer appropriate.
